Cassona USA Inc. (operating as Cassona International) embarked on its journey in Sub-Saharan Africa on August 25, 2022, beginning in Ghana and expanding to Nigeria. Since our inception, we have rapidly become a trusted name in healthcare services. This achievement stems from our steadfast commitment to integrity, corporate responsibility, and the delivery of efficient, affordable, and sustainable healthcare and diagnostic solutions across the region.
At the heart of Cassona’s mission is our dedication to corporate responsibility. We believe in empowering local communities by investing in education and professional development. We recruit first-year bioengineering graduates from local universities, providing them with hands-on training that extends beyond the theoretical knowledge commonly offered by many African institutions. Additionally, we facilitate opportunities for our employees to gain valuable insights from our manufacturing partners in countries with advanced medical and bioengineering technologies, such as China and the United States.
In just two years, our team has grown from a founding duo—my wife and I—to a staff of 25, contributing to local employment and economic growth. Cassona is also committed to giving back to the communities we serve. We have provided financial assistance and essential supplies to those affected by natural disasters, such as the flood victims in Weija, Ghana.
Our recent contributions include the donation of a fully-equipped science laboratory to Kinderkids International School in Accra, aimed at inspiring young minds to engage with science. We have also supported organizations dedicated to advancing healthcare standards and professional development, such as the Private Healthcare Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG), which we have proudly sponsored since 2022.
Looking ahead, we are expanding our efforts to include practical training for students in biomedicine and bioengineering at our diagnostic centers. We plan to donate vital diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and X-ray machines, to medical teaching hospitals and schools in Ghana and Nigeria. Moreover, we are committed to offering free mammogram and ultrasound screenings twice a month for women who cannot afford these services at our centers. Our goal is to hire more local biomedical engineers and to make medical diagnostic tools accessible to educational institutions through significant discounts and extended credit facilities.
Our journey is only just beginning.
At the launch of our company at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra two years ago, we set out with four primary goals:
- To make affordable medical diagnostic and imaging tools available to healthcare providers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- To establish local engineering and maintenance services for these tools, ensuring they are serviced within Africa.
- To provide financial support through credit facilities, making it easier for healthcare providers to acquire diagnostic tools.
- To supply backup power solutions, including generators and UPS systems, for each high-end diagnostic tool we place in hospitals and clinics.
We are proud to have achieved these goals within two years, despite facing numerous challenges.
Today, I am pleased to announce a fifth goal:
- To establish and operate diagnostic centers, either independently or in partnership with like-minded organizations, in the regions where we operate. These centers will provide essential diagnostic services to healthcare providers who may not have the resources to acquire the tools themselves.
As I’ve mentioned, our journey has only just begun.
The challenges we face are significant, but so are our ambitions. Nothing of value comes easily, and the greatest successes are born from lofty aspirations. When my wife and I started Cassona’s journey in Ghana, we had no idea we would achieve this level of success in a country where we did not speak the language or fully understand the business culture. Yet, here we are, almost two years later, recognized by healthcare providers throughout the region. Our success is, in large part, due to the warm and generous nature of the African people, who have welcomed us with open arms.
The African continent has long been underserved in healthcare. In a region of over 1.3 billion people, less than 1% have access to essential medical diagnostic tools and healthcare services. Despite its wealth in natural resources and a young, vibrant population, Africa remains at the bottom of global healthcare rankings.
Cassona came to Africa to help change this narrative. We are committed to making a difference, and we invite others to join us in this mission. Together, we can save lives, change the statistics, and bring hope to millions. By working together, we can create a better, fairer world for all.
See you in Africa.
