Dr. Darius Osei, a prominent figure in the medical equipment field and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Ghana Medical Center, recently returned from a transformative trip to China, sponsored by Cassona Global Imaging Ltd.
The journey took place from June 24 to July 3, 2023, and aimed to strengthen ties with Mindray, a leading healthcare solutions provider, and gain valuable insights to further Cassona Global’s vision.
The trip commenced on June 23, 2023, when Dr. Osei departed from Accra and arrived at Shanghai Airport the next day. Joseph, his local guide, was there to pick him up. After settling into the hotel, the evening saw a welcoming dinner to mark the beginning of the journey.
From June 24 to June 26, 2023, Dr. Osei and his colleague, a Radiologist from Komfo Anokye, explored Shanghai City, where they visited the prestigious Mindray Head Office. This insightful visit provided an in-depth understanding of Mindray’s operations and the manufacturing process of their wide range of products, including infusion pumps and ultrasound machines.
The highlight of the trip was the visit to the Mindray Factory, the largest of its kind in Shanghai, where the renowned “Project 2025, Vision for the Future” was commissioned. The event, held in Hefei, China, brought together speakers from different countries to share their experiences. Dr. Osei, in particular, spoke about the critical need for diagnostics in less developed countries like Ghana and the supply chain challenges faced by such nations in acquiring and maintaining medical equipment.
His interview on a Chinese TV station emphasized the importance of adequate support for healthcare equipment. Dr. Osei recommended that Mindray train biomedical engineers to enhance equipment maintenance and ensure sufficient spare parts availability to reduce downtime during equipment breakdowns.
July 1, 2023, turned out to be an unforgettable evening for Dr. Osei, as colleagues from various countries surprised him with a birthday celebration. The dinner, held in his honor, was a heartwarming gesture of appreciation.
The journey continued to Zhengzhou on July 2, 2023, with a visit to Mindray’s main office. Dr. Osei further explored the photoimaging department and the exhibition room, reiterating the significance of support in the healthcare industry.
Reflecting on the trip, Dr. Osei expressed his gratitude for the engaging and impactful experience. He highlighted that the knowledge gained during the journey would be presented to Cassona Global Imaging’s Board at the next meeting, intending to enhance the company’s competitive positioning and help achieve its vision.
